Seasonal property care

Step Into Fall: Time for an Exterior Cleanup

Fall is almost here, but in Ocala, we still have plenty of rain and warm weather ahead. Here are a few things we’re looking at this time of year.

Gutters and roof debris

Leaves, pine needles, and small branches collect in gutters and roof valleys. We remove that buildup and check the downspouts to make sure they’re clear, too.

Yes, that came out of a gutter.

With hurricane season still active, it’s a good time to get those areas cleared out. Debris sitting on the roof can hold moisture, so it’s worth taking care of before it piles up.

Those black streaks don’t always mean a new roof

While we’re out cleaning a property, we’ll sometimes point out black streaks on the roof. Often, the homeowner thinks the shingles are at the end of their life.

But we’ve seen plenty of roofs with good granule coverage and little to no curling or missing shingles. In many cases, all they needed was a cleaning.

We look at roof cleaning as regular maintenance. Before assuming you need a new roof, it’s worth finding out whether cleaning is all it needs.

Pool areas, driveways, and sidewalks

We see a lot of algae on pool enclosure screens and framing, especially in the corners and along the edges of the pool deck. After a humid summer, these areas—and your driveway and sidewalks—may be ready for a cleaning.
