Cleaning a Campus Takes More Than a Pressure Washer

Cleaning a school, college, or university takes planning before the first hose comes off the truck. There are students heading to class, staff coming and going, and buildings that need to stay accessible while the work gets done.

At Under Pressure Power Washing, those details are part of planning a large commercial cleaning project.

Making room for the work—and the people

Sidewalks, courtyards, and entrances can stay busy throughout the day. Cleaning these areas means coordinating with the facility team, blocking off work zones, and directing pedestrians to an alternate route.

Hoses, wet surfaces, equipment, and overhead work all need attention. Barriers and signs help define the cleaning area, while clear communication helps keep people from walking into it. Accessible routes and emergency access also need to be considered.

Sometimes the best time to clean a busy campus is when fewer people are there. After hours, nights, and weekends can give us room to work while reducing disruption to classes, staff, and visitors. We coordinate with the facility team around building hours, campus events, and access needs to find the right time for the job.

Reaching higher surfaces

Tall buildings and hard-to-reach areas may call for an aerial lift. Choosing the equipment is only part of the job. Ground conditions, overhead obstructions, weather, and the space below the work area all affect how the work is planned.

Lift operation requires specialized training. Operators need to understand equipment inspections, operating limits, fall protection, and how to recognize hazards around them. The ground crew also needs to understand its role in keeping the work area controlled.

Different building materials require different cleaning methods, too. High pressure is not appropriate for every surface. The approach should suit the material, its condition, and the buildup being removed.

A plan that fits your property

A campus cleaning project might include building exteriors, covered walkways, entrance areas, sidewalks, and common spaces. Walking the property with the facility team helps establish the scope, identify access concerns, and put together a workable schedule.

The goal is straightforward: clean the property carefully, communicate clearly, and plan the work around the people who use it.
